Week 9's Challenge (LMS)

1) There are 16 rows of seats in a school hall.
There are 75 seats in the last row.
If there is an increase of 3 seats, starting from the first row,
how many seats are there in the first row?
(Hint: Create a table)

2) A number is added to 6.
The sum is then multiplied by 6.
6 is again subtracted from the product.
When the difference is divided by 6, the result is still 6.
What is the number? (Hint: Working backwards)

3) On Monday, half of the total number of books were loaned out.
Another 87 books were loaned out the next day.
There were only 43 books left in the library.
How many books were there in the library at first?

4) Mary and Susan had $60 altogether.
If Mary gave Susan $12 and Susan gave Mary $10,
Mary would have three times as much money as Susan.
How much money did Mary have at first?

5) The places of birth of Cindy, Peter and Ali
are Singapore, Malaysia and China,
but not in that order.

Cindy has never been to Singapore.
Peter was not born in Singapore.
Peter was not born in China.

Can you find out their places of birth?
(Hint: Use a table to sort out the information)
